Serious Cuts to the Team

So to whoever that has been keeping up with this blog that I have not updated for months. Thank you, but I've finally found some time to do some updates within this week before work starts catching up along with finals. I've been meaning to do this for a while and I hoped that it would not come to this but it did. Serious cuts to the team roster has been made concerning all of the younger prospective riders that we had our eyes on. Time after time of disappointing performances and failed pep talks, perhaps they just aren't that into the sport; although there are still a few of them we are willing to put back on the roster, it all comes down to their motivation.

Of course this team is no where near legit sponsored teams, it is here to keep things more organized and to help progress every rider and have fun at the end of the day. The problems with our younger riders are mainly motivation and fear. They have no motivation to go to new places or even shred unless you urge them to do so. If not then they will stay within their comfort zone of Seward Park flat lands. They dream and speak of doing tail whips, 180's, 360's, and grinds, however in the time span of four months, significant improvements were rare. Although it did take the first wave of riders several months to learn the simple bunny hop, the team did it blindly in the dark with no guidance what so ever. I fail to understand why is it that there are no serious attempts to improve, they have had more than enough guidance to learning how to bunny hop and manual and that jump started their learning process quite a bit.

The most disappointing factor came whenever we went to the LES. Perhaps it was fear of making a fool out of themselves or the fear of lacking a bag full of tricks or just fear itself, but it does not mean you can not try to do what you already can do and do it even better. If not then you can even try new things. A great deal of them can hop at least half a foot to a foot by now, so why not throw on some pegs. If pegs aren't your style, fine, do a hop to a platform and try to 180 or g spin off of it. A simple hop manual to a hop out would be nice. The pitiful fact is that they did not even attempt a single trick. Instead they just sat at the park and huddled in their own little group watching everyone else and used the excuse that there was too many people and that there was no point in staying longer since nothing interesting was going on. There were double peg grinds 3 feet tall going on in front of them and they dare say that. Lawerence and another Asian rider were doing 360's. While Chad Phaire was just going off the hook with his warm up run. There was a ton of people there that they could have gotten to known and communicate and befriended, but they did not want to step out of their comfort zone.

Maybe it's because it's handball season and they're on the handball team. Perhaps that's more important, I don't know. Maybe they just want to be their own little group or team. That's fine too, especially since they do not find inspiration or motivation in us, but they see it in others who attempt the same tricks as us. The bottom line is that if you don't bleed or sweat for what you want, you won't get it. No practice = no skills = no tricks. That simple.

At the same time I have to give major credibility to the skateboarders, especially Eddie and Zhan since unlike the younger riders, they take the initiative. Perhaps the riders are still young and we should give them the benefit of the doubt because they have yet to hit puberty, or maybe they just need to gain some more courage. Until then the team has been cut down to four riders and two skaters. Hopefully a few more riders will join us along with some returning riders from the First Wave.

To end the night on a good note, the new design with a photo viewer will be up by this Friday on another site which I plan to move to. At the same time we will be working on putting together a minute or two long web edit to hopefully jump start the motivation of the younger riders we had to take off the team roster. Also photo shoots with the team members will also be set in motion soon, but dates have yet to be set with the rest of the team to fit their schedules. Latahs.
